The Quebec Society for the Protection of Plants (QSPP) offers annually the QSPP Student Fellowship. This $1,000 fellowship is awarded to a Master’s or Ph.D. student in plant protection (plant pathology, nematology, entomology and weed science) at a Quebec university. This fellowship provides financial support during one year.
Eligibility criteria
The applicant must:

be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada;

have an undergraduate degree or be close to obtaining one (at the time to take up the award) in science or engineering from a university whose standing is acceptable;

pursue full-time graduate studies and research at the master's or doctoral level in a Québec university (at the time to take up the award), in one of the areas of plant protection (plant pathology, nematology, entomology and weed science);
- FQRNT and CRSNG award holders are eligible;
- be a member of the QSPP at the time of submission;
- submit his/her application before 5 PM, April 29th 2011, to the QSPP Fellowships Committee.

curriculum vitae (academic background, research and other relevant experience, contributions to research and development - publications and communications -, scholarships, fellowships, and other awards offered);

outline of candidate motivations for undertaking and continuing the research project, and for completing graduate studies in plant protection (not exceeding 850 words);

proof of registration / admission in a master's or doctoral studies and research program in a Québec university in one of the areas of plant protection;
-
academic transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate studies;
-
outline of research project (not exceeding 350 words);

two support letters from referees (supervisor, another person familiar with research project).

significance, feasibility, and merit of proposed research project (20 %);

curriculum vitae-candidate’s ability to complete the project (35 %);

outline of candidate motivations (20%);

Candidates will be evaluated by an expert committee, according to academic excellence, research ability or potential, and support letters. This committee will be composed of experts in plant protection. The members of the QSPP Fellowships Committee will evaluate the outlines of candidate motivations. The decision will be made by the Fellowships Committee circa June 7th 2011. The 2011 QSPP Student Fellowship will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the Society in Montmagny on June 14 and 15, 2011. The awardee must be present and registrated at the Annual Meeting of the Society. |
